Satisfying Storytelling

Lexie has just been accepted to MIT when she is accidentally shot - and finds herself in a ten-year-old body on a different earth, one in which some people have powers. She herself turns out to have a talent that is expressed through cards. The magic of cards is considered inferior and obsolete.

A synopsis like that could apply to a very good story or a dull one, depending on the quality of the story-telling. In this case, the story-telling is very good, and so is the story. The characters are three-dimensional, and the author develops them slowly. Lexie makes good decisions - but not always.
