Twilight's Herald – T.A. White

White is writing four series in parallel, and they continue to range from good to excellent. This series is the best of the four.

I don’t know whether the series will continue past “Twilight’s Herald”; this would be a satisfying stopping point - though I will read the sixth book if it makes an appearance.

For most of the series Aileen has been the rebel, fighting to avoid entanglements in the supernatural world. Now she is making accommodations she can live with. For most of the series, other vampires were dangerous enemies or manipulative allies-of-necessity. Now some of them are friends - and some of the others are no longer as dangerous.

Newly-turned vampires are controlled and protected for their first century, but they have to be. They lack self-control and they lack power. Aileen is newly-turned, but she doesn’t lack power, she doesn’t lack self-control, and she has managed to set limits to the controlling senior vampires. Now we learn why.

The book tells a good story and ends in a good place.
