Cast in Atonement – Michelle Sagara
This is book 18 (depending how you count) of Kaylin’s story. Book 17 had some loose ends that - at the author’s discretion - turned out to be nasty. Bellusdeo is still in an awkward situation. Imelda is still baby-sitting some super-powered ghosts. The dead Ancient is still awake. Azoria’s enchantments didn’t necessarily die when she did.
As a long-time reader of this series (and who else is going to read book 18 of this series?) I was pleased to see these loose ends explored and resolved. I absolutely could not hand this book to people who were not a long-time readers, and expect them to follow it.
As books in this series go, “Cast in Atonement” leaned away from plot and towards introspection. I would have preferred more story-telling.
