Dark Running – B.R. Kingsolver
Alanis Nightshade is a fairy - wings, one foot tall (five if she wishes), eats flowers and gets high on cream. She’s a Winter fairy - knives are for slashing or stabbing, inhibitions are for Summer fairies, do unto others before others do unto you. She knows that smuggling is safer than politics - and usually pays better - so it’s just her bad luck that she’s caught in Edinburgh with her boat in dry dock, being repaired, when an epidemic of politics with a high mortality rate breaks out. Eventually, keeping a low profile stops working.
A fun read. Looks to be a stand-alone.
