Upended Life – Erin R. Flynn

This enjoyable wish-fulfillment fantasy falls within the main comfort zone of the author’s work: The protagonist discovers herself to be a supernatural. The protagonist turns out to be exceptionally powerful, to the point where the challenges she encounters can better be characterized as speed bumps. The transition to a supernatural life is accompanied by a transition to a busy and diverse sex life.

That description places the book as a typical Erin Flynn novel in a new setting. Is it a fun-to-read novel? Yes, and I expect to read the sequels.

Strong points: Engaging and likeable main character. Several engaging and likeable supporting characters, which doesn’t always happen. The story is embedded within a much-larger story that matters to the world. Weak points: The antagonists are weak, uninteresting, and stupid. Copy-editing was poor. The setup that jettisoned Tamsin into a top-tier university without a high-school education was unconvincing.
